Death Valley is the hottest and driest place in North
America. Less than 2 inches (50mm) of rain falls in an
average year and summer temperatures of 120F. (49 C.)
are common. What a pleasant surprise to find water
flowing on the surface! Smell the water. Does it remind
you of the ocean? Listen for the sound of running water.
Because there is water, there is more life than in most
places in Death Valley.
